Izšūta pasaule Berlīnē / Embroidered world in Berlin

Kad janvārī klīdu pa Mittes rajonu Berlīnē, uzgāju veikaliņu ar pavisam necilu ārpusi, bet manām acīm un saprašanai kārdinošu saturu, ko varēja labi saskatīt caur lielajiem logiem. Turklāt nosaukums – International Wardrobe – izteica visu. Veikals jau bija slēgts, un sev nosolījos atnākt atkal nākamajā dienā.
Nākamajā dienā domāju tikai par noslēpumaino veikalu, un tā bija zīme, ka tur noteikti jāatgriežas. Iepazinos ar veikala saimnieci Katarīnu, un tad uz krietnu pusstundu aizmirsos pārdošanai izlikto tērpu, aksesuāru un mājas tekstillietu pētīšanā. Citu apmeklētāju tobrīd nebija, un Katarīna labprāt pastāstīja, ka viņas aizraušanās ir ceļošana. Lai nopelnītu naudu biļetei, viņa no katra ceļojuma pārved konkrētajam reģionam (Indoķīna, Taizeme, Rumānija u.c.) raksturīgas lietas/tautastērpa elementus, kuri pēcāk nonāk pārdošanā. Katarīnas piebilde, ka pēdējā laikā viņu interesē Ukrainas tautastērps, man lika noprast, ka savus galamērķus vismaz šobrīd viņa izvēlas tieši pēc tā, vai tas sola guvumu veikaliņam.
Patīk man Katarīnas pieeja dzīvei, nudien.

Back in January I was wondering around Mitte in Berlin when I stumbled upon a small shop with simple, even undistinguished exterior yet very attractive range of things on sale easy to be seen through big shop windows. Furthermore, the name of it – International Wardrobe – said more than 1000 words. With the shop being already closed I promised myself to come again on next day.
When the next day came all I could think about was that shop and that was a sure sign I definitely have to go back. So I did, met the owner Katharina and then lost myself for a good half an hour browsing through whimsical accessories, clothing and home textile from far away lands. With me being her only customer at that moment, Katharina willingly told me her story.
She’s avid world traveler. To earn some money for her next journeys she searches for embroidered folk costumes and vivid accessories characteristic of the region she’s being visiting (Indochine, Thailand, Romania etc.) and then brings it back to Berlin to sell at her shop. When Katarina added her current interest lies in Ukrainian folk costumes I understood that at least now she picks her destinations after the interest of her little shop.
I like Katharina’s way of being, I really do.
